Hearst Metrotone Newsreels

The David and Lucile Packard Foundation and The Packard Humanities Institute have both contributed to the preservation of over 1 million feet of historical newsreel stories from UCLA’s Hearst Metrotone Newsreel Collection. These stories date from the 1920s through the 1960s.

A few of the many special topics that the Archive has focused on include: the Arab-Israeli Conflicts; Aviation; California History; Civil Rights Movement; The Cold War; Mexico; Music, Humor and Human Interest, 1929-1934; The Prelude to War (the 1930s); The 1920s; and end-of-the-year and special interest newsreels.
